VIJAYAPURA: The police shot at and arrested one of the accused, who is a contract killer, in the mass murder of five members of a family and another individual at Govindapura village on Bhima river bank when they had gone to arrest him on Monday.
So far, 37 people have been arrested. During the arrest of the 38th accused, who had taken a contract to carry out the massacre, police fired shots and took the contract killer into custody. A mass murder of six people had taken place in Govindapura due to a dispute over 25 acres of land.
Police fired at another main accused, Mahesh Talawar, shot him in the leg, and arrested him in cinematic style. When the Chadachan police went to arrest the accused near Ittangihal in Vijayapura taluk after getting specific information about his presence, accused Mahesh suddenly attacked the police with stones and tried to escape after threatening the police with a knife.
At that time, Chadachan CPI Parashuram Managuli shot the accused in the right leg and took him into custody. In this clash, Chadachan Police Station staff Shekhar Pawar and Vijayakumar Banasode were injured.
Vijayapura SP Lakshman Nimbaragi said, “On May 29, a total of six people, including five from the Nirale family of Chadachan and one other person, were brutally murdered in a farmland in Govindapura village on the Bhima riverbank. For this massacre, Mahesh Talawar and his brother had allegedly taken a contract of a whopping Rs 15 lakh. Mahesh is said to have gathered more than 20 boys for the killings”.
“For the last 23 days, police had been searching for Mahesh and his brother. But Mahesh had been evading police and moving around. However, today, based on definite information that he was hiding on the outskirts of Ittangihal village, Chadachan police opened fire and arrested him. Currently, accused Mahesh Talawar who was shot in the leg and the two injured police personnel have been admitted to Vijayapura District Hospital and are being treated. Further treatment is under way”, the SP added.
By shooting the contract killer in the leg, who had taken a contract and unleashed bloodshed at Govindapura, the police have acted tough.
