BENGALURU: Amid the political developments in the state Congress, filing of nominations for elections to four Rajya Sabha and seven Legislative Council seats began from Monday. The notifications for both elections were issued today.
Under pressure of CM selection and cabinet formation, Congress has already delayed candidate selection. June 8 is the last date for filing nominations, while June 11 is the last date for withdrawal of nominations. Voting will be held on June 18 and results will be declared the same day.
Congress and BJP have not yet finalised their candidate lists and the names of candidates from both parties are likely to be finalised in the next two to three days. Of the four Rajya Sabha seats, Congress has a chance to win three and BJP one. Among the Legislative Council seats, Congress has an easy win for four seats, BJP for four seats, and Congress is also fielding a candidate to win one more seat.
The terms of JDS supremo H D Deve Gowda, AICC president Mallikarjun Kharge, Belagavi BJP leader Eranna Kadadi, and Dakshina Kannada BJP leader K Narayana will end on June 25. The terms of JDS’s Govindrraju, Congress’s Naseer Ahmed, Thippannappa Kamakanur and B K Hariprasad, and BJP’s M T B Nagaraj, Pratap Simha Nayak, Sunil Valyapure, who were elected to the Legislative Council from the Assembly, will end on June 30.
