BENGALURU: A mishap was averted on a train travelling from Bengaluru to Bihar after the passenger coaches and the engine coach got uncoupled while the train was moving. The incident occurred on May 24 and due to the incident, train services were delayed by four hours.
The Danapur Special train (03252) was travelling from Bengaluru’s SMVT station to Bihar and had departed from SMVT station on May 23. The incident occurred around 1.30 am on the May 24 after crossing Vijayawada station in Andhra Pradesh.
The coaches separated after the train’s joint got uncoupled while the train was moving at a speed of 100 kmph. Fortunately, the train did not go out of control. The loco pilot’s presence of mind averted a disaster as he applied emergency brakes. The guard also applied brakes to bring the coaches to a stop.
The train stopped on the railway track itself with a 200-meter gap and none of the passengers were injured. Bengaluru division railway officials have not provided any information about the incident so far.
