BELAGAVI: A senior doctor, who had been with the KLE Hospital for about 40 years and who had been diagnosed with lung cancer, shot himself to death at his house here, unable to bear the pain in the chest. The deceased is Dr Dinesh Bhatkal (73), who hailed from Ankola in Uttara Kannada district.
After he was diagnosed with lung cancer four months ago, Dr Dinesh and his family had shifted to a house on Mandoli Road in Tilakwadi for his treatment. It is said that the pain would become unbearable at times and he had confided with some of his friends.
On Friday morning, he took his licenced revolver and shot himself in the balcony. Before ending his life, he had texted his well-wishers and seniors, including KLE Society former working president Dr Prabhakar Kore, on WhatsApp mentioning that the chest pain had become unbearable and that he was ending his life. He sought help for his family and also requested the police commissoner.
On receiving information, DCP Narayana Bharamani and staff rushed to the spot and shifted the body to the Belagavi Institute of Medical Sciences for post-mortem examination.
