VIJAYAPURA: A woman was buried alive after the roof of a house collapsed near the Gaurishwara Temple at Nidagundi town in the district on Weddnesday night. The deceased was identified as Mahadevi Varad (55).
The mishap occurred when the roof of the old house, which had become damp due to Tuesday’s rain collapsed. Mahadevi was sleeping inside the house and the roof collapsed in the early hours on Thursday, burying her alive.
Her husband Shivananda escaped with his life as he was sleeping outside the house. Nidagundi police and revenue department officials visited the spot and conducted an inspection. Mahadevi’s body was sent for post-mortem. The wailing of the family members at the spot was heart-rending. A case has been registered at Nidagundi police station.
