BENGALURU: With the confusion over third language, including Hindi, in SSLC exam having been cleared this year, it is almost certain that grades, instead of marks, will be given for third language, including Hindi, in the 2026-27 exam.
This year, following a High Court order, the Education Department gave marks instead of grades at the last minute. But from the next academic year, the grading system will be implemented for Hindi, replacing marks. The government is preparing to implement rules for a grading system for third language, including Hindi.

In a meeting held on Wednesday under CM Siddaramaiah’s leadership, amending the rule from next year was discussed. At the start of the 2026-27 academic year, the Education Department will frame rules on this and inform students.

Grade for 3rd language from next year

  • From 2026-27, grades will be given instead of marks for third language, including Hindi.
  • Law will be amended to give grades for third language.
  • By amending the law, govt plans to ensure no hurdles arise in the future.
  • The Education Department will inform students about grades at the start of the academic year.
  • Because grades are given for third language, the 100 marks for third language will no longer exist.
  • Since grades are given for third language, SSLC results will be declared out of 525 marks instead of 625 total marks.
  • There will be no pass/fail in third language, including Hindi.
  • Students have to study third language, but there will be no marks.
