BELAGAVI: A married woman was found dead under suspicious circumstances, hanging from a window in her house here on Sunday. The parents of the deceased Srinidhi Santosh Navi (28) have raised suspicion about the role of her husband Santosh Navi in her death.
Srinidhi, who hailed from Jamakhandi in Bagalkot district, was married to Santosh of Belagavi six years ago and the couple have two children. Srinidhi’s parents have alleged harassment by her husband and said they were not even given proper information regarding her death. The post-mortem examination was conducted at the Belagavi Institute of Medical Sciences on Monday.
According to Srinidhi’s brother Kantesh, Santosh’s family tormented her often and had even forbade her from using a mobile phone. However, she had not revealed about the harassment to her parents, he said.
After she was found hanging from a window, her husband’s family shifted her to a hospital, but did not give out full information to her parents. By the time the parents reached the hospital, the husband and in-laws had fled, alleged Srinidhi’s mother Mangala.
The woman’s parents have lodged a complaint with the APMC police who are awaiting the autopsy report and have taken Santosh into custody. Further investigation is under way.
