BENGALURU: With tempteratures increasing every day in Bengaluru city, the scorching heat has made it difficult for people to move around outside. The city’s major lakes are drying up due to the intense heat. Major lakes in the city have dried up in the harsh summer.

Water level in major lakes has dropped by four to five feet and rocks are visible at the bottom of Lalbagh Lake. The water level has dropped in Sankey tank too. The heat in Bengaluru is becoming more severe and people have reduced travelling on the roads due to the sweltering heat. They are resorting to umbrellas and caps.

Bengalureans are struggling day by day for drinking water. Now the impact of the heat is also being seen on lakes, which are Bengaluru’s lifelines. The lakes are gradually withering in the heat and Lalbagh in the city stands as evidence of this.

Another major lake in the city is Sankey taken where the water has receded by five to six feet. While water scarcity is one problem in the garden city of Bengaluru, the drying up of a lake with decades of history is evidence of the rising temperatures in the city. Hundreds of people walk here every morning and evening. Because there is water, the atmosphere remains cool.

But with historic lakes drying up, there is growing fear of what may happen if the heat increases further.
