Portraits of Ambedkar, social reformers found desecrated in Koppal village

KOPPAL, BENGALURU: Unidentified miscreants defaced portraits of Dr B R Ambedkar and some social reformers by smearing cow dung on them at Veerapura village in Kukanur taluk.

The miscreants smeared cow dung on Wednesday night and fled. The incident came to light when villagers noticed it on Thursday morning. A tense atmosphere prevailed at the spot, and the Kukanur PSI visited the location and conducted an inspection.

In another case of an attempt to vandalise the statue of former CM Gundu Rao at Cottonpet in Bengaluru, the accused was remanded to judicial custody after being produced before a court. The arrested person has been identified as Veerabhadrappa (35), a native of Ballari.

The accused had attempted to vandalise the statue of late former CM Gundu Rao. During that time, Cottonpet police who were on patrol noticed him and took him into custody. The accused also tried to assault the police during the incident. The police arrested the accused and took him to the station.

A case was registered against the accused at Cottonpet police station and he was produced before a court which remanded him to judicial custody.
