5-year-old child dies of Kyasanur Forest Disease (KFD) in Uttara Kannada

KARWAR: A 5-year-old girl child died of multiple organ failure after contracting Kyasanur Forest Disease (KFD) at a private hospital at Arendur in Siddapura taluk of the district. With this, the toll in the district has gone up to nine people.

The KFD virus, or monkey fever, has flared up again in Malnad part of Uttara Kannada district. The child, who had been suffering from a high fever for a few days, was admitted to Manipal Hospital in Udupi for further treatment, but she died without responding to the treatment.

In Siddapura taluk alone, 90 cases of KFD have been detected, and a total of 99 cases have been detected in other taluks so far.
