BENGALURU: The Bangalore Electricity Supply Co. Ltd. (Bescom) has approached the Karnataka Electricity Regulatory Commission (KERC) seeking a hike in power tariff for commercial and industrial connections, citing huge losses.
Bescom’s move has sparked a controversy as tariffs were increased just a year ago for the next three years. The move has led to a public outcry, with many questioning the justification for the hike.
Bescom is citing losses and revenue deficits as the reason for the proposed tariff revision, which would apply to commercial, industrial, and other consumers. Bescom has pointed to a Rs 2,000 crore revenue deficit, which may lead to a hike in domestic electricity tariffs also.
