RAICHUR: Basavaraj Jadar a teacher at the E J Government Senior Primary School at Mullur in Sindanur taluk, who is also a nature lover, created a nursery at his own expense on the school premises to inculcate the love of trees among school students and villagers by creating awareness about environmental protection.
Basavaraj Jadar, who has been serving as a teacher at the Mullur School for the past 15 years, came up with the idea of creating a nursery on the school premises and started it during the Covid-induced lockdown. The nursery was set up based on the location, water accessibility and cooperation of villagers and school teachers.
The teacher brought saplings from the Forest and Horticulture Departments and planted them in the village. More than 250 saplings have been planted in the cemetery and are now growing. Trees can also be found on any road in the village.
“Fifteen years ago, Basavraja Jadar came to our school. He is a recipient of the ‘Parisara Mithra’ award for conserving the environment. During the lockdown, more than 11,000 saplings were distributed to all the villagers. Everyone contributed to making our school green, “said Mallikarjuna, a villager.
Gulmohur, bell flower, tamarind, badami, neem saplings are available in this nursery. For the first time, 10,000 saplings have been grown and distributed to all the government schools in Sindhanur taluk for free.
The local temple and various other organisations have also taken some of the saplings and have planted them. This year, 5000 saplings have been planted. The school had handed over 1,000 sweet tamarind saplings grown on the roadside to the Forest Department.
