Darshan claims Rs 82 lakh found at home is agricultural income

BENGALURU: Darshan, who is accused in the Renukaswamy murder case and lodged in Parappana Agrahara Central Jail, is facing one problem after another. When he was being arrested, the police had found Rs  82 lakh cash in Darshan’s house which was seized and handed over to the Income Tax department.

After that, officials traced the source of the money and even went to Ballari jail to gather information. Now, the I-T department is digging into the source of the cash and is questioning Darshan.

Darshan's house, Shamanur hospital built on SWD: reportDarshan reportedly told the Income Tax officials that the cash came from his agricultural earnings, sale of farm animals and some of it was presented by his fans on his birthdays. The I-T department also multiple questions on whether anyone had given a loan in the past six years, or if he had given loans, with the exact date and time.

To this, Darshan said he gave a loan of Rs 40 lakh to his friend Ram Mohan Raj in February 2024. Mohan, a Bengaluru resident, is an old friend and repaid him in May 2024. Apart from that, he had not given or taken any loan in the last six years, Darshan told the officials.

Out of the R 40 lakh given to Mohan Raj, most of it was agricultural income and Rs 14 lakh came from the sale of animals. The rest was money given by his fans on his birthdays, he claimed. During the investigation, on 19‑06‑2024, the investigating officer seized Rs 37.50 lakh from his house. This to was part of the earnings from agriculture, animal sales, and gifts from fans, he said.

The I-T officials also asked for documents supporting the Rs 37 found in the house and the Rs 3 lakh found with Darshan’s wife. He said he has no documents for the found money, but added that he will refer to the income tax information that he had submitted in 2024-2025.
