VIJAYAPURA, CHIKKABALLAPUR: A youth died after he was electrocuted during a Ganesha visarjan procession while two others were seriously injured at Dhobali Galli in Vijayapura on Tuesday evening. The deceased was identified as Shubham Sankala (21).
The procession was passing through Gandhi Chowk when the youths were sitting atop the DJ speaker set. It is suspected that they came in contact with a snapped high-voltage power line, resulting in the death of one and serious injuries to two others.
The injured are the DJ operator Prabhakar Jangale (22) of Solhapur and Lakhan Sirkanth Chavan (24) of Dhobali Galli in Vijayapura. They are currently undergoing treatment at the district hospital. Another young boy also suffered minor injuries.
Meanwhile, two people died due to firecracker explosion at Muttur in Doddaballapur of Bengaluru Rural district during the Ganesha idol immersion. While Dhanush Rao (15) died last week when the explosion occurred, Yogesh (15) died in hospital without responding to treatment on Wednesday.
