BENGALURU: The BBMP has erred in distributing e-khatas accounts, using square feet instead of square metres in some cases. The BBMP has advised property owners to correct their information and warned that many people are yet to come under the tax net.

The BBMP has asked property owners who haven’t obtained e-khata accounts yet to get one. People are lining up to get e-accounts in the BBMP jurisdiction. Lakhs of people have already received e-accounts, and more people have applied. They have also been allowed to get new accounts.

Many complaints have also been filed in this regard. It is said that the e-khatas was issued in square feet instead of square meters. This wrong entry is said to be 2 per cent of the total e-khatas issued so far.

BBMP Chief Commissioner Tushar Giri Nath has said that property owners can get their e-khatas corrected by applying to the concerned authorities. “The BBMP will monitor transactions that haven’t come under the tax net yet. If square metres, square feet are mentioned incorrectly in the overall accounts, they can request a correction from the AROs. When the transaction was mandated from October, we found an error in it. We have found many mistakes and the AROs have the power to change it”, he said.
