9 fishermen rescued after boat capsizes

UDUPI: A boat with nine fishermen on board capsized at a distance of 5 nautical miles in the Arabian Sea. The boat was hit by huge waves and capsized. Fortunately, the fishermen in the boat escaped unhurt.

The boat named Sri Durgaparameshwari, owned by Pundalika, had left from Uppunda Tarapati in Bynduru taluk in the morning.Some fishermen in an other boat came to the rescue after sending information to other nearby boats.

Several fishermen helped empty the water out of the stricken boat and shifted it to Maravanthe port. In the accident, the fishing net on the boat and engine got damaged. The loss was estimated at over Rs 2 lakh.
