KALABURAGI: The police department has ordered suspension of Aland CPI Sharanabasappa and constables Hanumanth, Mallikarjun and Sayabanna for dereliction of duty after a Public TV report on the policemen illegally releasing a lorry seized for carrying illegal PDS rice meant for public distribution.
On Monday, 112 police had intercepted a vehicle that was illegally transporting ration rice, seized it and taken it to the police station. But the police allegedly struck a deal with the rice smugglers and released the vehicle without registering a case after taking a bribe.
After Public TV broadcast a report about this, Kalaburagi SP Adduru Srinivasalu took up the case seriously and ordered departmental inquiry which confirmed about the release of the rice vehicle, The Northeast Zone IG has ordered suspension of the CPI and three constables.
