37 dead in road accidents in a single day on Saturday, tweets ADGP Alok Kumar

BENGALURU: A staggering 37 people died in road accidents in different parts of the state in a single day last Saturday. This includes five people who died near Chitradurga in the wee hours on Sunday.

According to Additional Director General of Police (Traffic and Road Safety) Alok Kumar, two-wheeler riders formed the biggest chunk of victims and advised riders to wear helmets for safety. He also noted that inexperienced four-wheeler drivers must avoid night driving.

In a post on X, Alok Kumar noted, “Black saturday. 37 lives lost including 5 deaths near Chitradurga in early morning today , where the car hit the lorry from behind. Bike riders form the largest chunk. Inexperienced driver must avoid Night driving. Two wheeler riders should use Helmet for their own safety”

Four members of a family, including a friend, died on the spot, and three were injured in a ghastly accident after the driver dozed off at the wheel while overspeeding in the wee hours on Sunday.

The accident took place near Mallapura village in Chitradurga district. While four people died on the spot, one more succumbed at the hospital. The accident occurred when they were travelling from Vijayapura to Chikkamagaluru and the car rear-ended a lorry carrying steel coils.
