HASSAN: Three women Ayurveda doctors travelling on a train displayed remarkable presence of mind and delivered a baby after a pregnant woman travelling on the same train went into labour.
Dr Rashmi Bilagi, Dr Latashree N and Dr Shaheen M, who are postgraduate students in the Department of Psychiatry at Shri Dharmasthala Manjunatheshwara Ayurveda College and Hospital, Tanniruhalla in Hassan, were travelling by train from Hassan to Varanasi to attend a national conference. A pregnant woman was also travelling on the same train, and she developed labour pain during the journey.

With little time to reach a hospital, there was concern for the lives of both the mother and the baby. The three Ayurveda doctors immediately went to the pregnant woman and conducted a health check-up. They found that the umbilical cord was wrapped around the baby’s neck. They promptly removed the cord and safely delivered the baby right there on the train, showing humanity and presence of mind.
Both the mother and the baby are in good health, and the work of the three women doctors has received widespread appreciation from the public.
