22-year-old who stole buffaloes arrested from Latur 58 years later by Bidar police

The man was arrested from a village in Latur district of Maharashtra.

BIDAR: An 80-year-old man has been arrested by the Bidar police 58 years after he stole two buffaloes and a calf. He was arrested from Takalgaon village in Latur district of Maharashtra after the long arm of the law finally caught up with him.He was 22 years old when he committed the crime.

In 1965, one Muralidhar Kulkarni had lodged a complaint with the Mehakar police station in Bhalki taluk alleging that his two bufalloes and a calf had been stolen. the police had then arrested Kishan Chander and Ganapati Vitthal Waghmore who hailed from Maharashtra. However, after securing bail, the duo did not present themselves in court for the trial and ignored all summons, notices and warrants.

The case had fallen into cold storage and in the interim, the first accused died in 2006. Police Superintendent Channabasappa Langoti formed a special team to track the second accused, who is now 80, and he was picked up from Takalagaon village in Latur district of Maharashtra.
