14 taken into custody in Fazil murder case; colleges closed in 4 taluks as precaution

MANGALURU: A day after the murder of Mohammed Fazil at Suratkal on the outskirts of Mangaluru, the police have taken 14 people into custody.

Mangaluru Police Commissioner N Shashikumar said some of them are suspected to be involved in henious cases earlier and that further investigations are on. He also said that he had spoken to Fazil’s family and appealed to the people not to heed rumours. He also warned of action against those spreading misinformation on social media.

As a precautionary measure, colleges have been ordered closed in Suratkal, Panambur, Mulki and Bajpe.

Fazil’s body was taken from AG Hospital to the Mohiuddin Jumma Masjid in Mangalpet where it was kept in state for some time and the final rites were conducted later.

The final rites of Fazil were conducted at Mohiuddin Jumma Masjid in Mangalpet.

Meanwhile, ADGP (law & order) Alok Kumar visited the scene of murder in the New Market area on Friday along with Police Commissioner Shashikumar. Later he said adequate security arrangements have been made and CCTV footage is being checked.

A large crowd had gathered at the masjid.

“The commissioner himself will lead the probe to establish the motive for the murde and those who are involved. We will look at all angels”, he said. The Mangaluru police will carry out a special drive to instill confidence in the people, he added.
