BENGALURU: A 10-year-old girl died after being hit by a car while she was going to school near Beeravara in Nelamangala taluk on Thursday morning. The deceased was identified as Likitha S. Following the death, locals staged a protest on the highway.
The accident occurred when Likitha was going to school with her aunt and crossing a road. The car was travelling from Nelamangala towards Kunigal. Due to the driver’s negligence, the car came at high speed and hit her. The girl’s aunt escaped with her life.
Likitha was studying in 4th standard and her parents Srikant and Latha go to work. Hence, her aunt Vishalakshi used to take her across the road every day. At 8.45 am on Thursday, the child was about to cross the road with her aunt as there was a test at school. The child said she had forgotten her pencil and went back. While crossing the road, a Maruti Swift car knocked down the girl, killing her on the spot.
The body was been sent to Nelamangala mortuary for post-mortem examination and the car and the driver have been taken into custody. A case has been registered at Kudur police station. Locals staged a protest on the highway at Beeravara holding a photo of the deceased girl and demanded that a skywalk be constructed near the village. However, the Kudur police stopped them from blocking the highway.
