BELAGAVI: A youth was stabbed to death during the Ganesha idol immersion procession on Friday night. The victim was identified as Arjuna Gowda Patil (20) of Mugalihal village in Yaragatti taluk.
A clash broke out between two groups during the procession with regard to the DJ music. After it took a violent turn, Arjuna Gowda Patil was stabbed to death. The attackers fled when they saw the youth collapse.
“Around 8.45 pm, a college student was taken away from the crowd and stabbed to death. A conflict between the two groups has been ongoing for several months. Personal vengeance may have motivated the attack,” said a local.
A case was filed at the Muragod police station, and further investigation is under way. The deceased was shifted to the Belagavi District Hospital for post-mortem examination.
