CHITRADURGA: A 20-year-old youth ended his life by consuming poison as his grandfather refused to buy him a new mobile phone, at Kolal village in Holalkere taluk. The deceased was identified as Yashwanth.

On October 8, during the Mahaganapathi Shoba Yatra, Yashwanth had lost his mobile phone and was pestering his grandfather Ugrappa to buy him a new one. Ugrappa, however, told him that he had no money and that he would buy him a new phone after harvesting the onion crop.

Upset over this, Yashwanth consumed some chemical at home on October 18 and attempted suicide. Relatives immediately rushed him to a hospital in Chitradurga. As his condition was serious, he was referred to a hospital in Davanagere for further treatment, but he died enroute. The Chitrahalli police have registered a case in this connection.
