Youth accuses police of harassment, attempts suicide and posts video online

BENGALURU: A love-lorn youth attempted suicide by consuming rat poison alleging harassment by the Kadugodi police. He also smashed a beer bottle on his head, slit his hand and posted a video of his act on Instagram.

In the video, the youth alleged that he was being constantly harassed by the Kadugodi police who threatened him filing a rape case against him. He also blamed the parents of the girl, who he said he is in love with, and the girl’s cousin as being responsible.

Suresh (25), who works as a driver, is a resident of Bhovipalya in Mugalur near Sarjapur and had recently moved into a rented house. The girl in a resident of Jogi Colony in Seegehalli near Kadugodi. He claimed that he was being harassed for the last one week and attempted to end his life in Sarjapur police limits. Suresh was later admitted to Balaji Hospital in Sarjapur where he is battling for life.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Whitefield) S Girish said the girl’s father had lodged a complaint a few days go.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Whitefield) S Girish said, “Two days ago, the girl’s father, who runs a mutton shop, lodged a complaint with the Kadugodi police. In the complaint, the girl’s father said that Suresh, who works in his shop, used to behave inappropriately with his 16-year-old daughter and used to trouble her over phone. The Kadugodi police had registered a case and summoned Suresh to the police station”.

Further, he said that they have come to know that Suresh attempted suicide in Sarjapur police limits and that he has been hospitalised. “Based on the nature of case the Sarjapur police register, we will proceed with the case registered at Kadugodi police station”, he added.
