Young woman drowns in lake, villagers pack body in salt in attempt to revive her

CHIKKABALLAPUR: A young woman who went to make social media reels near the Ganganahalli lake in Gudibande taluk fell into it and died.

The deceased Amrutha (22) of Gajalavarapalli in Sidlaghatta taluk had come to Jambige for the housewarming ceremony of a relative’s house in Maradahalli. After she heard about the Ganganahalli lake overflowing, she went there with another girl.

“I was having food, but Amrutha forced me to accompany her to the lake. She unlocked her phone and gave it to me to take pictures and videos. She was sitting on a rock, but slipped and fell into the lake, “said Akshatha, who had accompanied Amrutha.

“Amrutha had come to attend the function. While taking a video, she slipped and fell into the lake. She had completed her MA and was studying B.Ed in Bengaluru. She was a distinction student and wanted to be a lecturer in a good college, “said Lakshmi Narasimha, her father.

In a bid to revive Amrutha, villagers packed her body with salt as it is believed that doing so helps drain excess water from the body.

A complaint was filed at the Gudibande police station and police visited the spot.
