BENGALURU: Three months after the completion of construction work, the newly built Kalasipalya BMTC bus stand is awaiting inauguration, apparently due to pending bills due from the Transport Department.

The spacious, well-equipped bus stand is awaiting inauguration for the last three months.

The well-equipped BMTC bus stand is located in heart of the city. Kalasipalya, which is a business hub, lacked a good bus terminal where people come from different parts to do business at the K R Market. The new BMTC bus terminal here has a ground floor with two upper floor (G+2) and has been built at a cost of Rs 63 crore. The construction work was started in 2018 and it was completed three months ago.

Dust has settled on the benches at the new Kalasipalya bus stand.

The contract for constructing the terminal was given to a Hyderabad-based company, which claims that bills are still due to be cleared. It is being speculated that this has been the cause for delay in inauguration of the bus terminal though official sources say there has been no suitable date for inauguration so far.

Vedprakash, Chief manager, KVM Projects Limited said, there is no objection from the company to hand over it to BMTC, though there is pending bill.

Vedprakash, chief manager, KVM Project Limited, said, “The construction work is already completed. Bills worth approximately Rs 15 crore are yet to be cleared. But we are ready to hand over the building anytime. The BMTC also submitted a proposal to the government asking a date for inauguration”.

“Business can be started in commercial outlets in the two-storeyed building. The government will also get revenue. There is no objection from the company. If the building is inaugurated early, the people will benefit”, he said.
