CHIKKABALLAPUR: A pregnant woman delivered twins on the platform of the Gauribidanur railway station after going into labour on Wednesday night before she could be shifted to a hospital.

Chandramma, who was eight months pregnant and hails from Kalaburagi, was travelling by Udyan Express to Chittapur village to attend a function at a relative’s house along with her brother and another woman relative. By the time the train reached Yelahanka, she had developed labour pains.

The mother and newborn twins were shifted to a hospital.

The relatives accompanying her immediately called the helpline and arrangements were made to shift Chandramma to the women and child hospital at Gauribidanur. But as the train reached Gauribidanur railway station, the woman went into labour and delivered twins on the railway station platform itself.

Luckily, the ambulance staff had reached the railway station by then and they assisted in the delivery. The mother and twins were later taken to the hospital where they are said to be in good health.
