Woman thrashed in private parts by police personnel, hospitalised

BENGALURU: A woman hailing from West Bengal and residing in the city has made serious allegations against the city police, accusing them of brutally assaulting her and thrashing her in her private parts.

The victim, Sundari Bibi, a 34-year-old migrant worker, claimed she was assaulted by the police after being accused of theft. She alleged that the police thrashed her on the head, back, hands, legs and private parts, leaving her unable to walk due to blood clots.

She claimed that she had picked up money that had fallen on the floor and was about to return it to her employers when the apartment owners accused her of theft, assaulted her after going through CCTV footage, and handed her over to the police.

She accused the police of torturing her in custody. The victim’s family has informed West Bengal Rajya Sabha member and West Bengal Migrant Workers’ Welfare Board president Samir-Ul-Islam about the incident. He has taken up the matter with the West Bengal Chief Minister’s Office, which has expressed displeasure over the Bengaluru police’s aggressive behaviour towards woman.
