BENGALURU: An aged woman sustained grievous injuries in the neck when a man, who had entered their house on some pretext, slashed her with a sickle and snatched her gold chain before fleeing, in Anekal on Monday morning. The badly injured Akkayyamma was immediately shifted to hospital by neighbours while her husband Narayanachari also sustained minor injuries.

The couple, who live by themselves in their house near Lakshmi Talkies in Anekal, cure people having joint pains and sprains with mantras. The unidentified attacker had allegedly visited them last Saturday for treatment of a sprain and had paid Rs 50.

The attacker was carrying the sickle in a plastic bag. He was caught on CCTV camera taking off his jacket to hide his identity.

Around 8.30 am today, he visited the couple again and closed the main door behind him after entering their house. He then alleged that his child had died because of the mantra and demanded that the couple hand over all their jewellery. When they did not comply, he slashed Akkayyamma’s neck with a sickle which he had wrapped in a bag, and took away her gold chain.

The attacker was later spotted on a hospital CCTV camera walking with the sickle in a plastic bag, taking off his jacket and tucking his shirt to hide his identity. The Anekal police have registered a case and are investigating.
