Woman steals gold jewellery worth Rs 8.50 lakh from her own sister’s bag during train travel

BENGALURU: A woman was arrested by the city police for stealing her own elder sister’s gold ornaments. She has since been sent to jail.

Chandra Sharma took a liking to her elder sister Lalitha’s gold ornaments. She stole the jewellery from her sister’s bag in the dark while traveling in train with her elder sister. When the train reached Cantonment railway station, the accused acted like she did not know anything about the gold jewellery.

Lalitha realised that the gold jewellery had been stolen when she checked her bag at home. She lodged a complaint with the Railway police about the theft. The police got suspicious about Chandra Sharma’s behaviour, and on questioning her, the theft case came to light.

The police have seized 152 grams gold jewellery worth Rs 8.50 lakh from the arrested. Chandra Sharma was arrested by the police and further investigation is under way.
