Woman kills 4-year-old daughter over illicit affair, arrested along with paramour

HAVERI: A 36-year-old woman and her 40-year-old paramour have been arrested for brutally killing her 4-year-old daughter and dumping the body into a canal, at Guddada Anveri village in Ranebennur taluk. The deceased child is Priyanka.

Gangamma Guttala, a resident of AKG Colony in Ranebennur was married to Manjunath, but was in an illicit relationship with Annappa Madiwalara, a resident of Gowrishankar Nagar. Two months ago, she deserted her husband and moved to Guddada Anveri along with Annappa.

Villagers found the childs’ body floating in the canal.

But the two saw the child as an obstacle to their relationship and killed her. On August 5, they strangulated the child and tried to burn the beside the Upper Tunga project canal near Kuragund village. They then dumped the partly burnt body in the canal.

Locals who found the body of the child in the water immediately informed the Guttala police who retrieved the body and cremated it as the child was unidentified. In the meantime, the husband Manjunath asked Gangamma to at least hand over the daughter to his custody.

However, Gangamma kept making excuses saying that the child had developed complications and was in a hospital in Mysuru. Manjunath then approached the town police seeking custody of his daughter. The killing of the child was revealed when Gangamma and Annappa were questioned. Both have been arrested and a case has been registered at the Ranebennur Rural police station.
