VIJAYANAGAR: A 26-year-old woman, who was to get married on November 23, died suspiciously at the groom’s house near TB Dam in Hosapete taluk on Sunday night. The police have now taken the groom into custody and are questioning him.

Aishwarya and Ashok Kumar were to get married on November 23.

Aishwarya S (26) and Ashok Kumar (27) were in a relationship for the last 7-8 years and Ashok’s parents had grudgingly agreed to the marriage after imposing certain conditions as Aishwarya belonged to a different caste. The parents of the woman have now alleged murder.

Aishwarya’s father Subramani said the two studied together and were in love for the past few years. “We came to know about it recently and though I was opposed to the marriage, our relatives got together and convinced me. Both the girl and boy were also insistent on getting married. I left her at her grandmother’s place on November 15 and some rituals were held on November 16 after which she stayed at the groom’s house. On Sunday afternoon, they called me to say that my daughter had committed suicide”.

Aishwarya’s father Subramani said he was informed about her death hours later.

“Before informing me, they had taken her to two different hospitals as her pulse rate had dropped. I don’t know how my daughter died. She was very strong and not the one to commit suicide. The groom’s family members have killed her”, he added.
