SHIVAMOGGA: A young Christian woman converted back to Hinduism, and the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) facilitated her return to the Hindu faith. The VHP unit in Bhadravathi successfully carried out the initiative.

The young woman was converted to Hinduism after performing religious rituals led by Veda Brahma Krishnamurthy Somayaji, the chief priest of Jannapura Mahaganapati Temple. The woman’s marriage is set to take place on May 24 as per Hindu traditions. Her wedding has been finalised at a mass marriage ceremony organised by the Vishwa Hindu Parishad.

The woman is set to marry M Shivakumar from Antaragange in Bhadravathi taluk. She hails from a Christian family originally from Seege Baagi, Hanumanthanagar, Bhadravathi. Her family had earlier converted to Christianity, though they originally belonged to the Hindu faith and were from Seege Baagi. After conversion, the young woman’s name was changed from Arogyakara Priya to Priya.

Speaking to Public TV about her conversion, Priya said, “I am from a family of Roman Catholics. We have been friends for five years and in love for two years. It wouldn’t be right if I belonged to one religion and he to another. I decided it would cause problems in the future. If we get married in a mass marriage, there won’t be any trouble. So I decided and converted on Thursday”.

“All the rituals were done at the temple. It was my first time experiencing that feeling. Everyone took good care of me. I have come to this religion willingly. Everything is new to me. They have taught me about the religion. I will follow everything”, said Priya.

“Priya has embraced Hinduism for me. The conversion took place under the leadership of Vishwa Hindu Parishad. We are getting married on May 24. I am very happy”, said Shivakumar.
