The woman and her paramour had got her husband killed.

HASSAN: A woman and her paramour ordered a hit job (supari killing) on her husband and got him killed as he was against her illicit affair, at Kumbarahalli village in Channarayapatna taluk. The police have arrested the woman and are on the lookout for four others. The body of Nanjunde Gowda a.k.a. Lokesh was found on the Maruvanahalli-Madaba road on Thursday night.

Lokesh had got married to Savitha of Hadenahalli 14 years ago and the couple have two daughters. Lokesh had a two-acre farm and owned a goods vehicle in which he transported milk from nearby villages to the milk collection centre at Byadarahalli.

Savitha had got into a relationship with Arun who lives opposite their house. Arun too is married and has two children, but his wife had deserted him. After the entire village came to know about their affair, several complaints had been lodged with the police. Recently, she hatched a plan along with Arun to eliminate Lokesh, police said.

Arun and his associates had attempted to kill Lokesh twice earlier, but he had survived. This time, they picked three spots to kill Lokesh and accordingly, places a wooden plank with nail in it on the road and covered it with grass. At two other spots, they had kept a digging bar and machete and two other places, Police Superintendent Mohammed Sujeetha said.

When Lokesh was returning from the milk collection centre around 8.25 pm on Thursday, his vehicle ran over the wooden plank and a tyre was punctures. He immediately called Thammaiah in his village, informed him what had happened and also asked him to bring someone along to help, the SP said..

The attackers then pounced on him, threw chilli powder at his face and hacked him to death. When she came to know of her husband’s death, Savitha pretended to collapse and did not move for about half and hour. However, the villagers, who knew about her affair, informed the police and when she was interrogated, she spilled the beans, the SP said.

The police have since arrested Savitha and are on the lookout for Arun and three others. Further investigation is under way and the other accused will be arrested soon, the SP added.
