TUMAKURU: A woman abandoned her newborn baby in a bush as the second child too turned out to be a girl. The incident occurred three days ago at Matanahalli village near Kallambella in Sira taluk.

Some shepherds, who had heard the wails of the infant, rescued the child and some women even cleaned up the baby and fed her. The shepherds had informed the Kallambella police who arrived at the spot and the infant was later handed over to the Women and Child Development Department.

Villagers had cleaned up the baby and fed her.

It now turns out that the child’s mother is Kamalamma, a resident of Mataganahalli. She had delivered the child at home and since it was her second girl child, she decided to abandon it in a bush after wrapping it in a blanket.

Women and Child Development Department officials checked on the mother and infant at hospital.

Kamalamma told officials that she abandoned the baby as the family was poor and they had domestic disputes. The mother and child are now undergoing treatment at the government hospital in Sira where officials from the Women and Child Development Department checked on them.
