CHAMARAJANAGAR: Three Indira Canteens have been shut across the district in the last three days following non-payment of salaries to the staff.

As of now, only the one at the district headquarters Chamarajanagar is functioning. There are allegations that the government has not released funds and the contractors are unable to pay their employees.

The gates of the Indira Canteen have been locked.

With the closure of the canteens, where food was served at nominal prices, daily wagers and others have been badly hit.

The Indira Canteen was a prestigious scheme of the Congress government led by Siddaramaiah.
