BENGALURU: A citizens’ group has raised objection to the construction of a water processing unit and storage tank by the heritage Century Club inside Cubbon Park without taking prior permission from the Horticulture Department. Nature lovers have opposed the construction stating that it will spoil the beauty of the park.

The Century Club has taken up construction work on the Cubbon Park premises, allegedly without permission.

Umesh, president of the Cubbon Park Walkers’ Association claimed, “Many construction works are going on in the name of renovation. They demolish a building, set fire or sometimes enact drama of an electrical short circuit. The Century Club authorities have been undertaking construction work without taking permission. Why are they taking up all renovation work within two years?”

Umesh, president of Cubbon Park Walkers’ Association plans to approach to court to stop construction in Cubbon Park limits.

“The club is not respecting court orders. I had filed a writ petition against the club in public interest and the Horticulture Department too had issued notice them, but they haven’t bothered. Now I will approach court against the construction. This is public property whereas the YMCA and Century Club are private properties within Cubbon Park. My aim is to save the park and I am ready for a legal battle to save nature”, Umesh said.
