BALLARI: The Vijayanagar district administration has initiated steps to raise awareness among visitors not to wear inappropriate clothes like jeans and bermudas while entering the famous Virupaksha temple in Hampi.

District Deputy Commissioner M S Diwakar himself created awareness among visitors stating that the temple is not only a historical site, but also a pilgrim centre. He also distributed panche and shalya to several devotees and tourists. He also asked them to educate others against wearing of short clothes at the pilgrim place.

It was common for visitors, including tourists, to visit the temple in denims, bermudas and other short clothes. Locals had for long questioned this and had been demanding the district administration to introduce some sort of dress code.
