Villagers rescue deer which had fallen into deep well, release it in forest

The deer had fallen into a deep well overnight and was rescued by some village youths.

BIDAR, BAGALKOT: A deer, which had fallen into a deep well at Marakal village in the taluk on Sunday night and fighting for its life was rescued by locals on Monday morning.

A few youths from the village got into the well and rescued the deer with the help of ropes before the Fire and Emergency Services personnel could arrive. They later released the animal in the forest.

The crocodile was captured by villagers with the help of an excavator.

Meanwhile, a huge crocodile, measuring about 9 feet long, was spotted at a sugarcane field at Kontikal village in Bilagi taluk of Bagalkot district. With the water level in the Krishna river receding, the menace of crocodiles coming to land in search of food has increased.

The huge crocodile had attacked a goat which was grazing by the roadside. Villagers managed to trap the crocodile with the help of an excavator and the Forest Department personnel rushed to the spot on receiving information. The officials later shifted the crocodile to another vehicle and released it in the backwaters of the Almatti dam.
