BALLARI: Villagers and the police got into a heated argument after a woman’s body was found in a tank near Kolur Cross in Kurugod taluk on Saturday.

Kurugod MLA Ganesh (in white) and the police try to convince the villagers.

As news of the body’s discovery spread, villagers, including some farmers, gathered at the spot in large numbers, posing a challenge for the police. When the crowd became uncontrollable, the police resorted to lathicharge to disperse them.

Many vehicles had piled up on the road.

This further infuriated the villagers who blocked the road for a few hours, questioning the police action. As a result, traffic had piled up along the road.

The massive crowd relented only after local MLA Ganesh intervened and convinced the villagers to disperse.

Meanwhile, the deceased woman was identified as Noorjahan (33), mother of three children. After her first husband died, she had married again. It is suspected that she may have committed suicide by jumping into the tank.
