On December 11 last year, a 42-year-old woman in Vantamuri village of Belagavi district was allegedly paraded naked, assaulted and tied to an electricity pole after her son eloped with a girl from the same village. The Kakati police had arrested 13 people in connection with the incident.

After four months at the Hindalga jail here, the Karnataka High Court granted conditional bail to the accused. The prime accused, Basappa Nayak, was welcomed by relatives and friends just outside the jail with garlands and sweets. A video of the incident has since gone viral.
