CHAMARAJANAGAR: Upset over being penalised by a community, a 45-year-old man committed suicide by hanging at Yadavanahalli in Gundlupet taluk on Friday. The deceased was identified as Y S Shivaraju.

In his complaint to the Begur police, Mahesh, the brother of the deceased, alleged that Shivaraju committed suicide as he was unable to bear the embarrassment and named 17 villagers.

Superintendent of Police Padmini Sahoo said evidence is being collected.

Family members and villagers laid siege to the Begur police station and staged a protest demanding the arrest of those responsible for the death. Deputy SP Lakshmaiah visited the spot and convinced the villagers that an investigation will be conducted and the accused arrested.

“As per the preliminary investigation, one community has imposed a penalty on the Shivaraju and he was upset about it. A case has been registered under Section 306 and others against 17 people and we will arrest them after collecting scientific evidence”, said Superintendent of Police Padmini Sahoo.
