Upa Lokayukta Phaneendra visits slum in Chitradurga, takes officials to task

Upa Lokayukta Justice Phaneendra checked on the progress of work at the sewage treatment plant in Chitradurga on Wednesday.

CHITRADURGA: Upa Lokayukta Justice (retd) Phaneendra on Wednseday visited the slum near Mallapura lake and the sewage treatment plant near Pillekaranahalli and heard public grievances.

The Upa Lokayukta vented his anger over the poor state of affairs near the lake and the stink. He also took the executive engineer of the water supply and sewerage board, Anil, to task over the state of affairs.

Justice (retd) Phaneendra also inquired about the project related to release of treated water into the lake and rapped the water supply board and minor irrigation department officials for the delay.

When the officials sought 10 days time to stop release of untreated water into the lake, the Upa Lokayukta said, “Don’t give wrong information just because I have come here. This is public work and has to be done with dedication”.

He then gave them one month’s time to complete the work and directed them to send videos and photos once the work is completed. Justice Phaneendra also directed the officials to ensure cleanliness in schools and deserted areas. Deputy Commissioner Venkatesh, zilla panchayat CEO Somashekar and other district officials accompanied the Upa Lokayukta.
