Under-construction apartment complex poses danger to houses nearby

BENGALURU: An under-construction apartment complex in Jai Bharat Nagar near Pulakeshi Nagar is posing a danger to other houses nearby as the site engineers were not careful enough.

At least 10 houses in the vicinity of the apartment complex have leaned over, become structurally weak with cracks on the walls and could collapse at any time. Residents are in fear of losing their lives and their property built with their hard-earned money.

An under-construction apartment complex is posing a danger to neigbhouring houses.

The site engineers had dug up 35 feet deep from the surface for the piling foundation. This has now caused damage to other houses nearby. Now the residents of those houses have vacated, acting on the instructions by the police department, given the potential danger.

The engineers dug up 30 feet of soil for piling foundation, causing other houses to lean or develop cracks in the walls.

After the residents complained to the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP), officials visited the site and examined the construction. Instead of shifting the residents to safer places, the BBMP simply set up barricades on the road. More than 100 residents of the area are now fear that their houses may collapse.

Rajashekhar, resident of Pulakeshi Nagar says they fear to go inside their houses.

Rajashekhar, a house owner, said, “More than 100 people complained to the police and the BBMP. They instructed us to vacate the houses. Then, a fire tender and some officials from the BBMP planning department visited the site and took measurements of the building structure. We have no courage to go inside the house. There are at least  5 to 6 people in each house. Where are we supposed to go now? What are we to do and what will happen to our properties”? he questioned.
