HUBBALLI: Hundreds of people lined up before LPG dealerships in Dharwad district on Saturday after rumours spread that Prime Minister Narendra Modi is giving Rs 5,000 each to Ujjwala LPG scheme beneficiaries.

Word spread in Kalaghatagi and rural parts of Dharwad that Ujjwala scheme beneficiaries will get Rs 5,000 in view of the Lok Sabha elections coming up next year. Following this, hundreds of people started queuing up before LPG distributors hoping to get the money.

It turns out that the last day for completing the KYC for Ujjwala scheme beneficiaries is December 31, but rumour was spread that PM Modi was giving away Rs 5,000 each to beneficiaries. The LPG distributors had a tough time in convincing the crowds that had gathered.
