Two students suspended for romancing on college campus in Belthangady

MANGALURU: Two students of the Gurudev College in Belthangady have been suspended for allegedly canoodling during a programme attended by Congress leader Siddaramaiah on December 17 wherein former MLA Vasanth Bangera’s book was released.

The boy and the girl, belonging to different communities, were allegedly kissing and hugging each other in the college campus on the day the book release programme was held. Soon after, some Hindu groups started a social media campaign terming it as love jihad and demanding that the two be debarred from the college. They had allgedly even issued life threats to the boy.

Meanwhile, college conducted inquiries with both the students on December 20, who admitted to their actions. Following this, the college has placed them under suspension. The institution has also written to the police saying that the name of the college continues to be sullied though action was taken against the two students.
