Two robbers of Chaddi gang injured in shootout near Mulky

MANGALURU: Two robbers belonging to the infamous Chaddi gang of dacoits, were shot at by the police at Mulky on the outskirts of the city when they allegedly tried to escape from the police when they were taken for spot inspection.

The two robbers had been nabbed from Sakleshpur on Tuesday. They were admitted to the Wenlock Government hospital for treatment.

Mangaluru Police Commissioner Anupam Agarwal said had broken into a house at Kodigal on July 6 and the police had launched a launched a hunt for them based on CCTV footage. Only July 7, the same gang had cut the grills of a house and looted gold and other valuables after assaulting the aged inmates. They had even stolen a car from the house.

“The police launched a hunt based on CCTV footage and the car was traced near the Mulky KSRTC bus stand. Based on information from a bus driver, we got to know that the gang was headed towards Sakleshpur. With the help of the Hassan police, we caught the robbers. On Wednesday morning, they were taken for spot inspection near the Mulky bus stand when two of the accused, Raju and Bali, attacked police constable Vinay. In self defence, Urva inspector Bharati shot them in the leg”, the police chief said.
