Two FIRs filed against actor Upendra under SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act for use of offensive words

BENGALURU: Two FIRs have been registered against Sandalwood actor and Uttama Prajaakeeya Party leader Upendra under the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act for his casteiest comment (for using objectionable words) on live video.

According to the police, the actor had allegedly used offensive words on social media platform Facebook Live regardubg a particular community.

Following his controversial remarks, Madhusudhan, assistant director of the Social Welfare Department, filed a complaint against Upendra for defaming a community at the CK Achukattu police station. The police have issued a notice to Upendra to attend the inquiry immediately. The  FIR was registered on the charge that he made a video insulting a community in his house.

Moreover, another FIR was filed against Upendra at Halasur Gate police station on  a complaint from Harish of the Randhir team An atrocity case has been registered against actor Upendra, the police said. In the presence of the complainant, Madhusudan, the police will conduct an inspection of Upendra’s house in Katriguppe today.

Apart from this, the postgraduate and research students’ union of Bangalore University has expressed their outrage against Upendra for his controversial remark. They have decided to hold a protest by burning an effigy of Upendra.

The cases have been registered against Upendra, and investigation is under way by an ACP-level officer. The Social Welfare Department official and Harish have started a legal battle against Upendra.

On Sunday, actor Upendra, while speaking in a live video, proudly said that his party’s candidates got more votes in the last state assembly elections than some of the other political parties without any campaigning, Later, he continued his talk and mentioned a proverb which allegedly defames a particular community.

After facing a backlash, Upendra later said ‘it was by mistake’ sought apology in a video message for his defamatory remarks against a particular community. He also said he had deleted the live video on social media.
