BENGALURU: A tusker and a calf fell into a 30-foot-deep well near the Dhenginakottai-Jawalagiri main road, and the Forest Department officials rescued them in an overnight operation.
The two wild elephants were unable to get out of the well and were struggling for life in the water. The incident took place at Kundala village on the border of Tamil Nadu. The Forest Department conducted a night-long rescue operation to save the elephants.
A herd of over 25 wild elephants had entered the village, and the Forest Department was trying to drive them back into the forest by bursting firecrackers. During the operation, an adult elephant and a calf, accidentally fell into a well on agricultural land. The elephant was crying out for the calf, which had fallen into the well.
The Forest Department used excavators to create a path around the well and rescue the elephants. The elephants were finally rescued and ran out of the well, with the adult elephant taking the calf and heading back into the forest. The rescue operation was carried out by the Jawalagiri Forest staff.
